About:

Imposing, majestic, magnificent, these are some of the many nicknames that the Pico Mountain volcano receives, thanks to its 2350 m maximum altitude, 19 kilometers of average diameter at sea level and slender figure. The third largest volcano in the Atlantic imposes itself on the island's landscape, exerting an irresistible attraction from almost every corner of Pico, and many sites on the neighboring islands. In its main crater there is a lava cone called Piquinho, on top of which permanent fumaroles are responsible for remembering its volcanic nature. At an altitude of about 1250 meters, where the pedestrian ascent to the Mountain begins, the gaze already encompasses a large part of the island, as well as neighboring Faial and São Jorge. The climb to the top is served by high doses of fatigue, and satisfaction: for the extraordinary feat and for fantastic and unique panoramic views. On a clear day, an additional bonus is the glimpse of the islands of Graciosa and Terceira.
